As I mentioned I would in my last post, I tuned in to Dr. Oz yesterday to find out what he recommends for treating arthritis. Ken suffers from arthritis in his back and is eager to find some relief.
The treatment Dr. Oz suggested is about the last thing I was expecting: raisins and gin.
You heard me, raisins and gin.
Apparently this is a folk remedy from way back, and many arthritis sufferers swear by it.
The recipe:
Put a box of yellow (white) raisins in a glass bowl and cover with gin. Let sit for about a week, then consume nine (9) of the drunken raisins per day. Not eight, not ten, but nine.
I did a little googling last evening to see if I could learn more about this treatment. Here are a couple of sites I found:
And here.
Here's one more.
Sitting on our kitchen counter is a glass bowl with raisins soaking in gin. Ken's rather disappointed to learn he'll have to wait a week before starting to take "the cure," but with luck the week will pass quickly. I know this for certain: I've never before seen him so excited to try a new medication.
Wow, that may cause a run of people falsely claiming to suffer from arthritis. Lock your front door.
ReplyDeleteI'll be watching for a report.
how funny, happy arthritis drinking...it is the holidays!
ReplyDeleteWell, I'll want an update. I can't think of any good way to imbibe gin.
ReplyDeleteIf it works for Uncle Ken please count me in! I think I might have to double the number of raisins per day...you know, to be sure all the arthritic parts of my body are covered!
ReplyDeleteDarn it, gin is one of the few liquors I don't like. But I do have arthritis so I can't wait to hear how well this works.
ReplyDeleteHi Jean ...I know people who have made this remedy and swear by it, but I suppose if you eat enough of those drunk raisins you won't feel any pain!!
ReplyDeleteWill be waiting to see how Ken does !!
Thanks for the post - I had heard that some time back and had forgotten about it. We will be trying it here, too, as Tramp 1 also has arthritis in his back.
ReplyDeleteReally? My mother in law used to have arthritis before we lost her. I wish I knew about this recipe then. You'll have to tell us if it actually worked.
ReplyDeleteLinda really made me laugh! I want to know how the experiment goes. Let us all know. If it works, I go buy the rum and raisins.
