The statistics:
Yankee Knitter Adult's Aran, design#20
Yarn: Briggs & Little worsted weight 100% wool in "Quoddy Blue," 272 yards/skein. I think I used six skeins. Maybe it was seven. No, it was six, because I have one full skein left over and a small part of another skein.
Started: December 31, 2008
Finished: February 17, 2009
Estimated hours of knitting: conservatively 100 hours (49 days X 1-3 hours per day) Probably more like 150-200 hours, but I don't want to think about that.
Second-best feature: It's a cardigan. I'm so glad I decided to make it a cardigan rather than a pullover. It'll serve as a light jacket once spring starts arriving here.
I had Ken do a "photo shoot" of me wearing it a few minutes ago. It's a cold day here in Maine, with a snowstorm arriving tonight and spending tomorrow with us, so a nice, thick Aran woollen sweater is appropriate.

I might have given up on this project about 1/3 of the way through, what with knitting and raveling, knitting and raveling, then realizing the sheer number of hours required to complete it, if it hadn't been for the encouraging words of Cheryl, Lin, Caryn, Kay, Heather, and Margaret. So thank you, guys. You kept me going.

WOW!! What a sense of accomplishment you must feel! I'm so glad you stuck it out and finished it. Beautiful color, beautiful job!! p.s. - - when Camden was three, you made him a blue pullover with a matching hat. The sweater won't fit Griff until next winter, but he wears the hat EVERYWHERE...it is his favorite.
ReplyDeleteWow,wow and more wow! The cardigan is beautiful! What a lovely color and it suits you very well. Good model shots as well. Glad to see Molly was part of the photo shoot as I am sure she has been right there with you all along...
ReplyDeleteabsolutely perfect...looks wonderful. love the color and it fits. what more could you ask for and you made it yourself. WOW I'm impressed
ReplyDeleteSiiiiggggghhhhh!
ReplyDeleteOh WOW! OH WOW! Jean, I knew it was going to be beautiful but that is beyond belief! It's totally gorgeous and so perfect for the weather. That color looks terrific on you! That intricate pattern just amazes me. I am in awe!
Woweee!
Omigosh!! I am salivating! You have quite a gift for knitting. The sweater is absolutely perfect....the color, texture and pattern, the fit, the buttons. As a female who can't knit and crochet or any of those other wonderful, womanly arts... I'm in awe.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you're going to be happy to have it as the storm rolls in. Good grief! Do you have any idea what a specialty shop would CHARGE for something like that? A month's salary... that's what.
Gorgeous!! Absolutely, positively GORGEOUS!! You must be proud of yourself for finishing it. But I'm a tad upset that it fits, was hoping it would be a little big and I'd have to take it over!! LOL
ReplyDeleteNice to see Molly in the photo also!
Thank you, Heather, Cheryl, Lin, Kay, Caryn, and Margaret. I appreciate your comments so much.
ReplyDeleteLove the new header photo!
ReplyDeleteExcellent job, it looks lovely and warm.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy knitting and crocheting, but would have to have much more practice and persistence to accomplish the things that you seem to do easily. Maybe someday....
